On the 29th of August we had our special tea in the different sections of the care centre. This tea is prepared by the village residents of Elphin Lodge. The ladies come in and lay out tables and bring the eats and treats. This function really allows for great interaction between the village residents and the care centre residents and it's always a very special morning.
Here are some of the photos of the morning.
Elphin residents Joan Beeton, Adrienne Reid and Marlene Gordon with Joy Movat and Penny Diamond from Ron Smith Care Centre.
Betty Haugthton from RSCC and Betty Dell from Elphin drinking a cup of tea together
Nicole Morrison, a young volunteer helping us out on the day.
If it is found in the way of righteousness.” (NKJV)
On the 31st of August we then had our Honour-the-Aged Lunch - a special lunch to not only celebrate spring that is around the corner, but the wonderful lives our residents have had and the wisdom reflected in their grey hair.
Helen Petrie gave a wonderful speech reminding us that to "Honour the elderly" is not just a social norm, but also the 5th commandment in the Bible. She also said that we are reminded about this in August, but it is our responsibility to love them, respect them, be considerate and appreciate them every day of the year.
We had a wonderful lunch cooked for us by our chef; Steve Burton, and with beautiful music in the background by our volunteer Debbie Swanepoel, the atmosphere was lovely.
Marie Diesel, enjoying the beautiful flowers that were on the table.
The two porters Millicent and Doris who worked very hard to get everybody to the dining hall in time.
Anna Marks enjoying the cherry dessert.
Debbie Swanepoel doing her magic on the keyboard.
Sister Eunice Lakay and Arhcibald McDonald sharing a giggle
All the smiles on the residents' faces made our hard work feel like a piece of cake :)
