Ron Smith Care Centre resident Ivan Langenstrasse is surrounded by love from care
workers Lungile Mhlongo, Olga Tivane and Germinah Baloyi, at the centre's Valentine's Day event.
Love was definitely in the air
the morning of February 14, as residents from Rand Aid’s Ron Smith Care Centre
were treated to a lovely Valentine’s Day Tea.
In the weeks before the tea,
residents put their artistic skills to use as they made all kinds of heart
creations in the OT Activity Centre, thus supplying the decorations for the
event. Gathering under the gaily decorated gazebos on the grassy area by the
lake, and with a myriad of hearts flapping gently in the breeze, residents
enjoyed a delicious tea of cream scones, sausage rolls and home-made shortbread
biscuits. People took pleasure in the
company of their friends, neighbours and caregivers and enjoyed the sunny day
as beautiful music played in the background.

Heart packages filled with chocolate truffles were gifted to all 160 Ron Smith Care Centre residents.
But the day of expressing love
was not yet over! In the afternoon, a further treat awaited as staff delivered
and presented a special heart package filled with chocolate truffles, to all
160 residents of the care centre. The chocolates were received with much thanks
and appreciation, as the thrill of receiving a genuine gift of love was revived
in their hearts once again. As Charles
Schulz (creator of the Peanuts characters) once said,
“All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.”
