Easter egg and bunny hunt brings excitement to RSCC

 

The excitement and laughter that echoed throughout Rand Aid’s Ron Smith Care Centre (RSCC) on 14 April was proof that you are never too old to enjoy an Easter egg and bunny hunt! 

“Friday morning dawned bright and sunny after a recent cold and wet spell. It was perfect weather for the elders from all six RSCC residential wings to go hunting for brightly coloured Easter eggs and take pleasure in the fresh air and sunshine,” says Debbie Christen, Rand Aid’s manager of recreational programmes.

Residents also had to search for a picture of a friendly bunny. The person from each RSCC wing that found it first, won a delicious chocolate bunny.

“Voices could be heard saying: ‘Where is this bunny? He’s really hiding’ and ‘Come out now, come on’. Eventually, loud shouts, squeals of delight and ecstatic cheering could be heard as each wing’s winner was recognised and applauded,” says Debbie.

The winners of the chocolate bunnies were Florence Ramsay (River Lodge 1), Bruce Richardson (River Lodge 2), Schalk Grobler (River Lodge 3), Maria da Silva (Woodlands), Anastasia Thula (Cedar Park) and Maria Volschenk (Lakeside).

The afternoon was spent decorating Easter cupcakes and enjoying them with a nice cup of tea or coffee. “The activities were a lovely start to the Easter weekend and enjoyed by all,” says Debbie.

RSCC’s residents and staff also experienced a full week of special activities, including Easter-themed painting, crafts, quizzes and cupcake decorating.

Gail Harmer celebrated her 85th birthday on 14 April.
